James Manning, MD, is an experienced physician at Hampstead Internal Medicine in Hampstead, North Carolina.  He grew up nearby in Beulaville, NC, where he worked in a local pharmacy during high school.  In medical school he met his wife, Tina, a Wilmington native.   After graduating from medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill, Dr. Manning completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.  Dr. Manning then moved back to eastern NC with Tina and his young children - Sophia, James, and Sydney. 

Dr. Manning worked several years in Washington NC and was elected Chief of Staff at ECU Beaufort hospital.  From there, he began teaching through the Department of Internal Medicine at ECU.  His focus areas include medicines and their side effects and interactions with other drugs.  He truly believes the fewer medicines a person needs, the better.  He also taught communication skills to young doctors  helping them speak in real and understandable language with patients.  His proudest work has been taking care of the people of eastern North Carolina, and teaching and mentoring the next generation of doctors.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Manning set up and ran medicine programs in multiple hospitals including ECU Beaufort, ECU Medical Center, Lenoir hospital, and Chowan hospital.   After working in multiple hospitals and ICUs during the Covid epidemic, Dr. Manning realized it was time to began his life long goal of opening his own primary care practice.

His true passion is his family.  He also enjoys fishing, playing guitar, coaching youth basketball, and trying to grow tomatoes.
